Kreisch! Nix mit Ferien am Meer: Tokio Hotel tauchen nach ihrer
US-Tour ins Studio ab, um für ihr neues Album zu schuften, das Anfang
2009 erscheinen und noch rockiger werden soll.Für die
Magdeburger Jungs bleibt keine Zeit zum Ausruhen. Auf ihrer US-Tour
bringen sie gerade die Kids in Amerika wieder zum Kreischen. Und nach
der MTV-Awards-Verleihung in Los Angeles im September, wo sie neben
Britney Spears für das beste Video und als beste Newcomer nominiert
sind, geht es nach Hause und ins Studio.Material für das dritte
TH-Album gibt’s schon genug. "Bill kommt seit Monaten ständig mit neuen
Song-Ideen an", sagt ihr Manager David Jost. "Jede freie Minute nutzen
sie zum Lieder-Schreiben."Noch härter als die Vorgänger-Alben
soll die Platte werden, haben sich Tokio Hotel vorgenommen. "Wir werden
die Platte wieder auf Deutsch und Englisch aufnehmen", sagt Jost. Die
deutsche Version soll zwischen Januar und März 2009 erscheinen, etwas
später die englische in den USA. Jost: "Da sind aber auch paar deutsch
gesungene Songs drauf."Weihnachten soll alles fertig sein. Erst
dann dürfen Tokio Hotel Urlaub machen. Jost: "Wahrscheinlich fliegen
sie wieder auf irgendeine Postkarten-Insel." Die letzen Ferien
verbrachte die Band auf den Malediven.

sortir entre janvier et mars 2009, et la version anglophone pour les
Etats-Unis, quelques temps après. Jost rajoute : "Mais il y aura quand

You’ve heard the screams and witnessed
the hysteria that comes in their wake, but just who are Tokio Hotel?
It’s no doubt that this little German band has taken the world by
storm, covering the music scene in an intoxicating monsoon of giant
hair and moving lyrics. You’ve seen the videos and heard the songs, but
just who is this quartet of youth and how did this hysteria come about?

Tokio Hotel is comprised of the Kaultiz twins; lead
vocalist Bill and Guitarist Tom. The Band also contains drummer Gustav
Schafer and Bass player Georg Listing. The Boys musical interests began
when they were around seven years of age. Bill and Tom‘s musical
interest was sparked by their step father who was a musician himself.
The twins started out by playing local pubs in their hometown of
Magdeburg, Germany. Bill would do vocals while attempting to play the
keyboards and Tom would accompany on the guitar. Bill composed his
first song at the age of nine. One night while playing a local club
called Gröninger Bad, the twins caught the attention of two young
musicians in the crowd. Georg Listing and Gustav Schafer, who knew each
other from school, witnessed the twin’s musical abilities and knew they
needed their help. “It was obvious that these two guys needed some
help, so we talked to them after their gig” Laughs Georg in an
interview with PopCultureMadness.com. Tom goes on to joke “Yeah, they
actually begged us to join the band - that's how we got together”.
The
band began their early career under the name Devilish. The first gigs
they undertook were for no more than five or six people. “Yeah,
sometime we have ten or twelve people.“ Bill laughed in an early
Devilish interview for a German TV program. Despite their lack luster
start the boys soon caught the attention of the record labels in 2001
and began their marathon to fame. After securing their first record
deal the boys felt a need for a name change and opted for Tokio Hotel.
“After we signed our record deal we thought it was time for a new
beginning - we were called Devilish before that. All of us really like
big and modern cities. We all think Tokyo is one of the coolest places
on earth - and we hope to get there someday soon, hopefully to perform”
Tom explains to PopCultureMadness.com. Bill goes on to add, “Yes, and
we were also looking for a symbol that would represent our lives from
that point on. And because we were living in hotels a lot of the time,
the name really seemed to fit”.
In 2003 Bill was a candidate in
the first season of "Star Search" (category "Junior"). Bill performed
The Whether Girl’s “It’s Raining Men.” But in the quarter-final he was
defeated by Oliver Bruton. Bill did not let his “Star Search”
experience get him down and in 2005 the band released their first
German-language album, Schrei, as Tokio Hotel on Island Records. Schrei
sold more than half a million copies worldwide. The album also provided
them with four top five singles in Germany and Austria. Their fist
album produced their first widely popular single “Monsoon” that has now
become a staple in their line of success.
The release of their
first album catapulted the boys into the hearts of every German girl
who witnessed their image. This overnight success made it difficult for
the boys to continue a normal routine, such as going to the store and
attending school. The twins for example, where constantly causing
massive hysteria at their high school. Very soon the boys were forced
to give up on regular classes and finish their degrees online. Bill has
been noted as saying that he hated everything to do with school. Don’t
we all?

In 2007, the band released their second German album Zimmer 483. The new German album produced three top five singles in Germany. Also in 2007 the guys released their first English album Scream. Together both albums sold over one million copies world wide. Scream
produced two singles that reached the top twenty in new territories
such as Portugal, Spain and Italy. The new albums also helped the boys
land their very first MTV European Music Award for Best InterAct. They
also performed their newly translated version of “Monsoon” at the
EMA’s. The performance was made especially memorable because of the
monsoon produced upon the stage. During the last chorus of the song the
stage was engulfed in a downpour drenching our German rockers. The song
never waned a minute and resulted in one of the most spectacular
performances of the entire night. Their first live album, Zimmer 483 - Live In Europe, was released near the end of 2007.
After
their various European tours and domination of their home country,
Tokio Hotel was read y to tackle North America. In 2008 the boys played
several shows in Toronto, New York and L.A. Each gig turned up a
multitude of new fans, surprising the band because their CD hadn’t even
been released there yet. Before they could bask in their US debut and
return for some more the band suffered a serious set back. Vocalist
Bill Kaulitz lost his vocal abilities before several prominent European
and US tour dates. At first it was thought his loss of voice was a
simple matter of laryngitis. Upon further examination it was discovered
Bill’s vocal chords contained a cyst that had been formed through over
exertion of his voice. The cyst was removed successfully and after 10
days of silence and weeks of rehab Bill was back on tour once again.
The band looks back on the ordeal as a scary time in their career but
are glad Bill came through unaltered.
The dates were rescheduled
and the band returned to the States for the second time. The guys were
especially nervous about coming to the US. While there the boys would
be undergoing their first ever completely English tour. They marked
their first ever US live television debut on MTV’s TRL. They conducted
the entire show in English periodically apologizing for their bad
language skills. The boys did a wonderful job conversing with everyone,
proving their English is definitely on par. While on the show they
performed “Ready, Set, Go” to a hysterical audience and presented a
lucky fan with a costume from the actual video shoot. The Boys will be
returning to TRL for a whole week as guest hosts August 4th-9th 2008.
Most
recently Tokio Hotel attended the 2008 Comet Awards in Germany where
they picked up four Awards including the Super Comet Award. More
exciting than the new awards was Bill’s unveiling of his brand new hair
style. He temporarily ditched the famous Sonic the Hedge Hog main for a
darker sleeker look. Don’t worry his hair may be darker but it still
has the ability to defy all gravity.
So what’s next for Tokio
Hotel? Only time can tell. The band is currently touring the European
festival scene and will begin their US invasion in August. With the
support of their many eager fans throughout the world there’s nothing
these boys can’t do. Now it’s our turn to help them stay on top. Are

Cela
ne fait aucun doute, ce petit groupe allemand a emporté le monde entier
dans leur tourbillon recouvrant les musiques d’une tempête toxique de
paroles qui bougent et de cheveux en l’air. Vous avez vu les vidéos et
écouté les chansons...
Mais qui est ce jeune groupe et comment cette hystérie a-t-elle commencée?

TH
est composé des jumeaux Kaulitz, (le chanteur leader Bill et le
guitariste Tom) mais il y a aussi, Gustav Schafer à la batterie et
Georg Listing à la basse.
Les garçons se
sont intéressés à la musique lorsqu’ils avaient 7 ans. C’est leur beau
père, musicien lui-même, qui les y a initiés.
Les jumeaux se sont alors produits dans des pubs de leurs village, à Magdeburg, en Allemagne. Bill chantait et essayait de jouer du synthé pendant que Tom l’accompagnait à la guitare. Bill composa sa première chanson à l’âge de 9 ans.
Un
soir alors qu’ils se produisaient tous les deux dans un pub du coin le
‘Gröniger Bad Pub’ ils ont capté l’attention de 2 jeunes musiciens dans
la foule.
Georg et Gustav qui se
connaissaient depuis l’école, ont remarqué les capacités musicales des
jumeaux et savaient qu’ils avaient besoin de leur aide : « Il était évident que ces deux avaient besoin d’un peu d’aide alors nous sommes allé leur parler après leur représentation » dit Georg en rigolant dans un interview pour PopCultureMadness.com.
« Oui en fait, ils nous ont suppliés de les accepter dans notre groupe, et c’est comme ça qu’on s’est rencontrés… » dit Tom, plein d’humour.
Le groupe débuta alors sa carrière sous le nom de 'Devilish'. Leur premiers shows ne rassemblaient que 5 ou 6 personnes.
« Ouai », dit Bill, « parfois il y en avait 10 ou 12 ».

Malgré
des débuts difficiles, les garçons ont rapidement capté l’attention des
producteurs en 2001, et ont débuté leur marathon de la gloire…
Après avoir conclu leur premier contrat, les garçons ont ressenti le besoin de changer le nom du groupe et ont choisi TH. « Après
avoir signé le contrat, on a pensé que c’était un nouveau départ, avant
on s’appelait « Devilish ». On aime tous les grandes villes modernes.
On s’est tous dit Tokyo c’est un des endroit les plus cool de la terre
- et on aimerait aller un jour là bas, avec l’espoir de s’y produire! »
dit Tom pour PopCultureMadness.com. Bill rajoute : « Nous
cherchions aussi un symbole qui représenterait nos vies à ce jour. Et
parce que nous vivions dans des hôtels la plupart du temps, le nom a
vraiment semblé aller ».

En
2003, Bill a été candidat pendant la première saison de « Star Search
», catégorie junior. Bill a chanté « The Whether Girl’s : “It’s Raining
Men'' ».Mais en quart de finale, il a été battu par Oliver Bruton. Bill
surmonta sa défaite et en 2005, le groupe TH sorti leur premier album
en allemand : Schrei, sous le label ’Island Records’. Schrei s’est
vendu à plus d’un million d’exemplaires dans le monde.
L’album leur assura la 4^ème
place dans le ‘top five’ des ventes en Allemagne et Autriche. Leur
premier album produit, leur single « Monsoon » qui est largement
plébiscité : Leur premiers bases sont ainsi faite et en avant vers le
succès…

La sortie de leur premier
album projeta les garçons dans le cœur de chaque petite allemande. Leur
succès soudain était dur à gérer pour les garçons qui essayent de
garder une vie normale, comme aller dans des magasins ou à l’école. Les
jumeaux par exemple, causaient, de par leur célébrité, des
attroupements de fans hystériques devant leur collège. Rapidement, ils
ont été forcés de cesser d’aller en cours normalement et reprirent leur
études par correspondance. Il a été souligné que Bill avait dit qu’il
détestait tout ce qui était en rapport avec l’école.

En 2007, le groupe sorti leur second album en allemand : 'Zimmer 483'. Ce nouvel album se classa 3^ème dans le ‘top five’ des ventes en Allemagne.
Il
y eut aussi leur premier album en Anglais , 'Scream'. Ces deux albums
se sont vendus à plus d’un million d’exemplaires à travers le monde.

extraits de cet album se sont classés dans les 20 premières ventes au
Portugal, en Espagne, et en Italie. Grâce à ces 2 nouveaux albums le
groupe a été nommé aux ‘MTV European Music Award’ dans la catégorie
‘Best InterAct’. Ils ont également joué ‘Monsoon’ aux EMA. Leur
apparition a été très remarquée car il y avait la tempête sur la scène!
(comprenez : des trombes d’eau qui arrosèrent les garçons sur le
dernier refrain…) ça a été LA prestation la plus remarquée, la plus
spectaculaire de la soirée de remise des prix.
Leur premier album live : ‘Zimmer 483 - Live in Europe’ est sorti fin 2007.

Après de nombreuses tournées en Europe et en Allemagne, TH est prêt à conquérir les States et le Canada ...
En
2008, le groupe s’est produit plusieurs fois à Toronto, NY, et LA.
Chaque concert rassemblait une multitude de fans, ce qui les surprit
car leur album n’était même pas encore sorti là bas…
Avant
même avoir eu le temps de ‘se chauffer’ aux States (comprenez : après
quelques concerts seulement…), le groupe reçut son premier coup dur :
le chanteur Bill Kaulitz a perdu sa voix avant même d’avoir réellement
entamé leur MEGA tournée Européenne et Américaine…
Au
début sa voix a un peu souffert à cause d’une laryngite, puis après de
nombreuses consultations, il en ressort que Bill a un kyste sur les
cordes vocales, qui s’est formé car il a trop forcé sur sa voix. Le
kyste a été extrait, et après 10 jours reduits au silence total, et de
longues semaines de convalescence, Bill était de retour sur scène pour
les tournées. Lorsqu'il y repense, le groupe voit cette période comme
un moment dur à surmonter dans leur carrière, mais, est désormais ravi
de retrouver un Bill en pleine forme et comme avant!

Les
dates des concerts annulés on été recalées, et le groupe partit pour
les States une seconde fois. Ils étaient très nerveux à l’idée de
partir là bas. C’était leur première tournée Américaine!!
Leurs
premiers pas furent pour MTV’s TRL. Tout s’est déroulé exclusivement en
anglais, de temps à autre, ils s’excusaient pour leur soi-disant «
mauvais anglais »… Les garçons ont fait un super boulot en parlant à
tout le monde exclusivement en anglais, la preuve qu’il n’est pas aussi
mauvais qu’ils le prétendent…
Durant le
show, ils ont joué « Ready Set Go » à une foule en délire, et offert à
une fan (très chanceuse) la tenue du clip. Les garçons étaient les
’guests stars’ de TRL pendant la semaine du 4 au 9 août.

Plus
récemment, TH ont assisté aux Comet Award 2008, en Allemagne où ils ont
raflé 4 Comets ! y compris le 'Super Comet Award'. Autre point marquant
des Comets : la nouvelle coiffure de Bill. Il a temporairement arrêté
de se coiffer comme Sonic, et a opté pour un lisse noir parfait!
Ne vous inquiétez pas, ses cheveux sont plus foncés mais pourront toujours défier les lois de l'apesanteur...

Alors quoi de neuf sur TH ? Seul le temps nous le dira...

En ce moment le groupe est en tournée pour des festivals, et débutera sa ‘déferlante’ aux States en août.

2005 the band released their first German-language album,
Schrei, as Tokio Hotel on Island Records. Schrei
sold more than half a million copies worldwide. The album also
provided them with four top five singles in Germany and Austria.
Their fist album produced their first widely popular single
“Monsoon” that has now become a staple in their line of
success.

The release of their first album catapulted the boys into the
hearts of every German girl who witnessed their image. This
overnight success made it difficult for the boys to continue a
normal routine, such as going to the store and attending school.
The twins for example, where constantly causing massive hysteria at
their high school. Very soon the boys were forced to give up on
regular classes and finish their degrees online. Bill has been
noted as saying that he hated everything to do with school.

In 2007, the band released their
second German album Zimmer 483. The new German album
produced three top five singles in Germany. Also in 2007 the guys
released their first English album Scream. Together both
albums sold over one million copies world wide. Scream
produced two singles that reached the top twenty in new territories
such as Portugal, Spain and Italy. The new albums also helped the
boys land their very first MTV European Music Award for Best
InterAct. They also performed their newly translated version of
“Monsoon” at the EMA’s. The performance was made
especially memorable because of the monsoon produced upon the
stage. During the last chorus of the song the stage was engulfed in
a downpour drenching our German rockers. The song never waned a
minute and resulted in one of the most spectacular performances of
the entire night. Their first live album, Zimmer 483 - Live In
Europe, was released near the end of
2007.

tackle North America. In 2008 the boys played several shows in
Toronto, New York and L.A. Each gig turned up a multitude of new
fans, surprising the band because their CD hadn’t even been
released there yet. Before they could bask in their US debut and
return for some more the band suffered a serious set back. Vocalist
Bill Kaulitz lost his vocal abilities before several prominent
European and US tour dates. At first it was thought his loss of
voice was a simple matter of laryngitis. Upon further examination
it was discovered Bill’s vocal chords contained a cyst that
had been formed through over exertion of his voice. The cyst was
removed successfully and after 10 days of silence and weeks of
rehab Bill was back on tour once again. The band looks back on the
ordeal as a scary time in their career but are glad Bill came
through unaltered

dates were rescheduled and the
band returned to the States for the second time. The guys were
especially nervous about coming to the US. While there the boys
would be undergoing their first ever completely English tour. They
marked their first ever US live television debut on MTV’s
TRL. They conducted the entire show in English periodically
apologizing for their bad language skills. The boys did a wonderful
job conversing with everyone, proving their English is definitely
on par. While on the show they performed “Ready, Set,
Go” to a hysterical audience and presented a lucky fan with a
costume from the actual video shoot. The Boys will be returning to
TRL for a whole week as guest hosts August 4th-9th

including the Super Comet Award. More exciting than the new awards
was Bill’s unveiling of his brand new hair style. He
temporarily ditched the famous Sonic the Hedge Hog main for a
darker sleeker look. Don’t worry his hair may be darker but
it still has the ability to defy all gravity.

Vous avez entendu les cris et
été témoins de scènes d’hystérie
sous vos yeux...Mais au juste, qui est TH ? Cela
ne fait aucun doute, ce petit groupe allemand a emporté le
monde entier dans leur tourbillon recouvrant les musiques
d’une tempête toxique de paroles qui bougent et de
cheveux en l’air. Vous avez vu les vidéos et
écouté les chansons...
Mais qui est ce jeune groupe et comment cette hystérie
a-t-elle commencée?

TH est composé des jumeaux Kaulitz, (le chanteur leader Bill
et le guitariste Tom) mais il y a aussi, Gustav Schafer à la
batterie et Georg Listing à la basse. Les garçons se sont
intéressés à la musique lorsqu’ils avaient 7
ans. C’est leur beau père, musicien lui-même, qui
les y a initiés. Les jumeaux se sont alors produits dans des
pubs de leurs village, à Magdeburg, en Allemagne. Bill
chantait et essayait de jouer du synthé pendant que Tom
l’accompagnait à la guitare. Bill composa sa
première chanson à l’âge de 9 ans. Un soir
alors qu’ils se produisaient tous les deux dans un pub du
coin le ‘Gröniger Bad Pub’ ils ont capté
l’attention de 2 jeunes musiciens dans la foule. Georg et
Gustav qui se connaissaient depuis l’école, ont
remarqué les capacités musicales des jumeaux et savaient
qu’ils avaient besoin de leur aide : « Il était
évident que ces deux avaient besoin d’un peu
d’aide alors nous sommes allé leur parler après
leur représentation » dit Georg en rigolant dans un
interview pour PopCultureMadness.com. « Oui en fait, ils nous
ont suppliés de les accepter dans notre groupe, et c’est
comme ça qu’on s’est rencontrés… »
dit Tom, plein d’humour. Le groupe débuta alors sa
carrière sous le nom de 'Devilish'. Leur premiers shows ne
rassemblaient que 5 ou 6 personnes. « Ouai », dit Bill,
« parfois il y en avait 10 ou 12 ».

Malgré des débuts difficiles, les garçons ont
rapidement capté l’attention des producteurs en 2001, et
ont débuté leur marathon de la gloire… Après
avoir conclu leur premier contrat, les garçons ont ressenti le
besoin de changer le nom du groupe et ont choisi TH. «
Après avoir signé le contrat, on a pensé que
c’était un nouveau départ, avant on
s’appelait « Devilish ». On aime tous les grandes
villes modernes. On s’est tous dit Tokyo c’est un des
endroit les plus cool de la terre - et on aimerait aller un jour
là bas, avec l’espoir de s’y produire! » dit
Tom pour PopCultureMadness.com. Bill rajoute : « Nous
cherchions aussi un symbole qui représenterait nos vies à
ce jour. Et parce que nous vivions dans des hôtels la plupart
du temps, le nom a vraiment semblé aller ».

En 2003, Bill a été candidat pendant la première
saison de « Star Search », catégorie junior. Bill a
chanté « The Whether Girl’s : “It’s
Raining Men'' ».Mais en quart de finale, il a été
battu par Oliver Bruton. Bill surmonta sa défaite et en 2005,
le groupe TH sorti leur premier album en allemand : Schrei, sous le
label ’Island Records’. Schrei s’est vendu à
plus d’un million d’exemplaires dans le monde.
L’album leur assura la 4ème place dans le ‘top
five’ des ventes en Allemagne et Autriche. Leur premier album
produit, leur single « Monsoon » qui est largement
plébiscité : Leur premiers bases sont ainsi faite et en
avant vers le succès…

La sortie de leur premier album projeta les garçons dans le
cœur de chaque petite allemande. Leur succès soudain
était dur à gérer pour les garçons qui essayent
de garder une vie normale, comme aller dans des magasins ou à
l’école. Les jumeaux par exemple, causaient, de par leur
célébrité, des attroupements de fans
hystériques devant leur collège. Rapidement, ils ont
été forcés de cesser d’aller en cours
normalement et reprirent leur études par correspondance. Il a
été souligné que Bill avait dit qu’il
détestait tout ce qui était en rapport avec
l’école.

En 2007, le groupe sorti leur second album en allemand : 'Zimmer
483'. Ce nouvel album se classa 3ème dans le ‘top
five’ des ventes en Allemagne. Il y eut aussi leur premier
album en Anglais , 'Scream'. Ces deux albums se sont vendus à
plus d’un million d’exemplaires à travers le
monde. 2 extraits de cet album se sont classés dans les 20
premières ventes au Portugal, en Espagne, et en Italie.
Grâce à ces 2 nouveaux albums le groupe a été
nommé aux ‘MTV European Music Award’ dans la
catégorie ‘Best InterAct’. Ils ont également
joué ‘Monsoon’ aux EMA. Leur apparition a
été très remarquée car il y avait la
tempête sur la scène! (comprenez : des trombes
d’eau qui arrosèrent les garçons sur le dernier
refrain…) ça a été LA prestation la plus
remarquée, la plus spectaculaire de la soirée de remise
des prix. Leur premier album live : ‘Zimmer 483 - Live in
Europe’ est sorti fin 2007.

Après de nombreuses tournées en Europe et en Allemagne,
TH est prêt à conquérir les States et le Canada
...En 2008, le groupe s’est produit plusieurs fois à
Toronto, NY, et LA. Chaque concert rassemblait une multitude de
fans, ce qui les surprit car leur album n’était
même pas encore sorti là bas... Avant même avoir eu
le temps de ‘se chauffer’ aux States (comprenez :
après quelques concerts seulement…), le groupe
reçut son premier coup dur : le chanteur Bill Kaulitz a perdu
sa voix avant même d’avoir réellement entamé
leur MEGA tournée Européenne et Américaine… Au
début sa voix a un peu souffert à cause d’une
laryngite, puis après de nombreuses consultations, il en
ressort que Bill a un kyste sur les cordes vocales, qui s’est
formé car il a trop forcé sur sa voix. Le kyste a
été extrait, et après 10 jours reduits au silence
total, et de longues semaines de convalescence, Bill était de
retour sur scène pour les tournées. Lorsqu'il y repense,
le groupe voit cette période comme un moment dur à
surmonter dans leur carrière, mais, est désormais ravi de
retrouver un Bill en pleine forme et comme avant!

Les dates des concerts annulés on été recalées,
et le groupe partit pour les States une seconde fois. Ils
étaient très nerveux à l’idée de partir
là bas. C’était leur première tournée
Américaine!!Leurs premiers pas furent pour MTV’s TRL.
Tout s’est déroulé exclusivement en
anglais, de temps à autre, ils s’excusaient pour leur
soi-disant « mauvais anglais »… Les garçons
ont fait un super boulot en parlant à tout le monde
exclusivement en anglais, la preuve qu’il n’est pas
aussi mauvais qu’ils le prétendent…Durant le show,
ils ont joué « Ready Set Go » à une foule en
délire, et offert à une fan (très chanceuse) la
tenue du clip. Les garçons étaient les ’guests
stars’ de TRL pendant la semaine du 4 au 9 août.

Plus récemment, TH ont assisté aux Comet Award 2008, en
Allemagne où ils ont raflé 4 Comets ! y compris le 'Super
Comet Award'. Autre point marquant des Comets : la nouvelle
coiffure de Bill. Il a temporairement arrêté de se
coiffer comme Sonic, et a opté pour un lisse noir parfait! Ne
vous inquiétez pas, ses cheveux sont plus foncés mais
pourront toujours défier les lois de l'apesanteur...

Alors quoi de neuf sur TH ? Seul le temps nous le dira...

En ce moment le groupe est en tournée pour des festivals, et
débutera sa ‘déferlante’ aux States en

15-years-old. Breaking down cultural walls, the Tokio Hotel phenomenon
has crossed language barriers, causing a tornado-like frenzy in Spain,

Tokio Hotel have gone four times Platinum and in France, they’ve had a
crowd of 500,000 chanting along to their songs in front of the Eiffel
Tower. One by one, European territories have seen the band graduating

When the band formed in Magdeburg, Germany, in 2001 (originally
under the name Devilish), they say they had no idea they’d go on to win
every prestigious German music award. “But there was never a plan B,”
explains Bill, “music is all we know.” Guitarist Tom added “Playing
live means everything to us. That’s how we started three years
ago…performing our songs in small clubs and bars – sometimes with only
five people in the audience. These days have changed completely. We
have sold out stadiums and the biggest venues you can get. This
unbelievable success is hard to grasp and every single day we are
grateful for it.”



With their US debut ready for release, listeners will get a chance
to hear how Tokio Hotel’s melodic brand of rock easily navigates
between headbanging guitars and power-packed anthems to mid-tempo pop
tracks and more introspective ballads. The one thing their diverse
songs all have in common? There’s always a message.



“Don’t Jump” is an anti-suicide song, telling the listener not to
give up on himself, while the guitar-heavy album-opener, “Scream,” is
about “saying what you want – or better yet, shouting it – to get your
point across,” explains Bill. The quiet but powerful “Rescue Me” is
about the helplessness you feel when a relationship crumbles before
your eyes, while the sweetly, slowed-down “Monsoon” is about going
through hardships with a best friend or soul-mate – withstanding
anything life can throw at you – and by facing adversity, overcoming it
to find a positive end.



“The lyrics are very important to us,” says Bill. “They help our
fans know where we’re coming from. The best part of being a musician is
being onstage and seeing a sea of people sing your lyrics-it’s a rush.”
Now, for the first time, they’ll be able to hear the songs sung back to
them in English. “It’s going to be a little crazy,” Bill admits. Though
the group learned to speak English in school, they still write songs in
their native German and then translate them into English.



Their first U.S. album is actually a combination of hits from their
two German albums – “Schrei (Scream),” and “Zimmer 483 (Room 483),” –
translated into English and re-recorded. Their first single in Germany,
“Durch den Monsun” (“Through the Monsoon”), went to number one in
August 2005 and “Rette Mich (Rescue Me)” also peaked at number one soon
after.

Move over Heidi Klum and Hugo Boss. The new ambassadors of German
popular culture have arrived in the United States, but they're not what
you'd expect.
This German band is gaining popularity in the United States.
Tokio Hotel may sound like a new Japanese resort, but it's actually
a group of four rocker guys whose singer is often mistaken for a girl
but is actually the identical twin of the dreadlock-haired guitarist.
Puzzled yet? The band scored two No. 1 albums in its native Germany,
and yet most of the band members aren't even old enough to legally
drink here.
Tokio Hotel's sharp rise to fame, from playing school concerts and
weddings a few years ago in its hometown of Magdeburg, a hundred miles
southwest of Berlin, to currently selling out venues in New Jersey, San
Francisco and Chicago, can arguably be seen as Internet-driven. The
band has amassed a frenzied fan base of mostly young women who take the
title of the band's first English album, "Scream," seriously -- by
doing just that at a mere glimpse of the band.
Wendy is a young fan from Brooklyn, N.Y., but jokingly claims, "Ich
bin ein Deutsch!" She thinks the band is "hot," but also found the
music to be so powerful it "can bring tears" to her eyes. "Tokio Hotel
ist der beste!," says Doris, 18, who says she is learning German
because of her interest in the band.

German band Tokio Hotel has become an angsty, international teen
sensation largely because of androgynous, 18-year-old singer Bill
Kaulitz, whose image — equal parts Joan Jett, '80s-era Cher and
waif-thin emo pinup — and shy demeanor have made him an unlikely
heartthrob. The group's English-language debut, Scream, was released in May and has endeared the band to the TRL set.
Kaulitz and his Hotel crew, including twin brother Tom, are
already superstars overseas. The band has sold more than 5 million
albums of restless youthful anthems throughout Europe. Tokio Hotel is
up for best new artist and best pop video at next month's MTV Video
Music Awards, a sure sign of impending teen domination. Kaulitz
recently talked with the Chronicle's Joey Guerra about those
nominations and dished on Texas and the Jonas Brothers:
Q: What are your impressions of the U.S. as you've been touring?
A: It's been a really amazing trip so far. We'd
only played in New York and L.A., but to travel the country and meet
fans all over is really amazing. Chicago is great, and Las Vegas is
just overwhelming.

Q: What are you expecting from Texas? Be honest.
A: We've never been here before, and we're just
excited to see another part of the States. As far as we know, Texas is
the land of oil, horses, cowboys and big barbecues.

Q: Are there differences between U.S. and European fans?
A: You can't differ concerning the country. All
fans are really, individually different. But what they all share is
that excitement, that energy, how they go wild and crazy and how they
celebrate at our shows. We love that.

Q: What are some must-have items while you're on the road?
A: I have 10 bags with me on the road, and I need
them all. No joke. And I need my mobile and my laptop to stay in touch
with friends and my family.

Q: What's the story behind your personal style?
A: Tom and I used to look exactly the same until we
were 6 and developed individually from there. It all started with a
Halloween party to which I went as a vampire. I liked the look, and
everything took off from there.

Q: How long does it take you to get ready?
A: Not as long as everybody imagines. For
everything — taking a shower, brushing teeth, getting dressed — I'd
probably need 45 minutes.

Q: Tokio Hotel gets lots of comparisons to the Jonas Brothers. Have you heard their new disc?
A: We haven't heard it yet. But we have heard a lot about them. They just went to Europe. Their success is really awesome.

Q: At next month's MTV Video Music Awards, you're up for best new artist, a category in which you're the only male act.
A: All I can say is we are so excited to be
nominated at all. This is something we wouldn't even dare to dream of.
I mean, we are a German band nominated twice for the MTV Video Music
Awards. Come on. I think we have no chance, but being there is just amazing.

Q: What's the most surprising song we'd find on your iPod?
A: Mmmm — I only have good music on my iPod.

Once again, MTV has intercepted your
direct-to-Kaulitz prayer hotline and fulfilled your desires: Tokio
Hotel will attend the 2008 VMAs, which is convenient because they’re
nominated for Best New Artist and Best Pop Video.



How huge will Bill’s hair get? Will Tom drop more hilariously
inappropriate one-liners about making “big business in the toilet” or
the status of the rest of the band’s virginity? (I HOPE SO!)



Will the last remaining old-guard Jonas Brothers versus Tokio Hotel
fans drop the hate and learn to appreciate? Or is the feud finally
over?

Verizon Wireless Theater presents Tokio Hotel.

TOKIO HOTEL are Bill Kaulitz (vocals) & Tom Kaulitz (guitar), Georg Listing (bass) and Gustav Schafer (drums), and their story reads like the script for a blockbuster movie...

'... A band from a town in East Germany become the biggest stars of the past 20 years in their native country, charting records at No. 1, playing to ten or twenty thousand each night and being feted with every German industry award.

Before long, the four musicians are travelling farther afield, and demand is growing fast - not just from an increasingly manic fanbase, but from the mass media too. Much attention is focussed on the frontman and the guitarist - identical twin brothers with a potent `fight for your dreams´ philosophy.

The former is a striking, androgynous-looking performer, pierced & tattooed, an artist effortlessly able to drive his followers into a frenzy, whilst the latter cuts a distinctive dash of his own.

They record & release two full albums of memorable guitar-driven anthems, complete with German lyrics, and Tokio Fever rages out of control...'

You can already hear the cameras starting to roll, except...

The script would have to include the fact that two of the TH members were just 13 years old when they made their first record, and they are still all under 21 today. So no-one would believe it. No way.

ACTUALLY, NOT only is the above synopsis free from artistic licence, but if anything it underplays the impact the band have made on a German market where `Tokio Fever´ is now an epidemic…

Since signing with Universal in May 2005, TH have sold approaching three million records & DVDs in Germany alone, making them the country´s most successful band, with a host of domestic awards jostling for space in the collective cabinet (nine platinum/four gold, at last count, plus an additional four platinum awards for sales in Austria & Switzerland). And they played the most successful debut live tour EVER to grace German stages.

The two TH albums – 2005´s `Schrei´ (`Scream´) and follow-up `Zimmer 483´ (`Room 483´) – have both topped the charts at home, spawning four No.1 singles, and in the case of the former, staying on those charts for 66 unbroken weeks.

Meanwhile, the first leg of the European stadium tour in support of `Zimmer…´ (April 3rd - May 14th) saw the group playing in front of young crowds six to twenty thousand strong. All going mad. All of the time. Something underlined in the reddest possible ink by the `Schrei-Live´ DVD, issued in 2006, which has now sold approximately 100,000 copies in Germany, pushing total DVD sales for TH to the quarter million mark...

And just to make the `script´ even more improbable, all of the above (and more!) has been achieved in less than two years – although the speed of this breakthrough should in no way imply either fast-tracking or favoritism. In the world of TH, dues have very much been paid...
